LEG-SPINNER Kayode Pantophlet took six for 68 to give the Sagicor UWI the leading edge on the first day of their encounter against the BDFSP.
Brian Johnson (70) and Mario Boyce (66) were the mainstays of the Defence Force's total of 266. By stumps, the University students were 24 without loss.
After winning the toss and batting, the BDFSP got off to a flying start from their openers Lamar Wiggins (28) and Mario Boyce (66).
They rushed the score to 53 off just 46 deliveries before Wiggins was leg before to Gilford Moore.
Boyce was joined by acting captain Andre Gill and together added a further 72 runs for the second wicket before Gill became the first of Pantophlet's wickets, leg before wicket for a well played 40.
At 139 for two and with Boyce on 66 and batting with purpose, the young soldiers looked on target for a big score. However, without any addition to the score, Boyce played a tired stroke and was caught at point. The BDFSP then lost five wickets for only an additional 25 runs. However, Johnson and the lower order brought them to a respectable position before Pantophlet cleaned up the last four.
