Promise not kept to Fort George folk

THERE IS ONE particular promise Government is apparently not keeping one made to residents of Fort George, Christ Church.
"Four years ago the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) promised me and the residents of Fort George there would not be a back road through this area.
"But what we are witnessing here is an attempt to create such a road. If this is done they will be bombarded as people will seek to make a shortcut through the area to get away from heavy traffic," said Government's special advisor on poverty alleviation, Hamilton Lashley.
Lashley took the WEEKEND NATION to Fort George recently to show a dirt track at the back of the development which he said a four-wheel vehicle could easily traverse.
"I am calling on the MPW to make sure the promise is still being kept. My view is that if a person has invested in a development such as this, it should not be put at the risk of depreciation or devaluation," he said.
Lashley said while he understood the traffic problem "you could not violate an agreement to the discomfort of people who had invested their hard earned cash".
He said he would also be talking to Minister of Public Works Gline Clarke about having some sort of barricade erected. (CA)
