SPIDERMAN AND SUPERMAN were there. So too were fairy princesses, Little Red Riding Hood, a witch and goblin
and other caped crusaders, cheerfully mingling yesterday on the grounds of Ilaro Court, Prime Minister Owen Arthur's official residence.
They and other fantasy and comic creatures met to enjoy the Enchanted Garden party, a fund-raising event presented by the Ministry of Social Transformation and the Child Care Board under the patronage of the Prime Minister's wife, Julie.
The event was delayed by an hour, but the children did not mind at all. Besides visiting the different booths,
they strolled the lush grounds of Ilaro Court in a cool atmosphere, showing off colourful costumes.
It was a time to live out fairytale fantasies such as a carriage ride to Cinderella's Ball; visiting Mirror On The Wall to get a photograph; Fantasy Express to get items to enhance one's attire; Snow White Apple's Delight where there were strung apples to be nabbed and eaten or the Alice In Wonderland Maze where the fun was to find your way through a section of the garden.
There was also arm-westling, jumping tents for the young, a marble-pitching tent for the young and not so young and face-painting for those who wanted a new look.
There was also plenty to eat and drink.
When it came to live entertainment, Kimberley Inniss was a big splash with the little ones. They gathered around
her for conversation, even before she went on stage.
By the time it was her turn to sing, they were all excited.
She answered their call with the popular Hips. One child joined her on stage for this energetic dance.
The little ones also enjoyed storytelling with a costumed team from the National Library Service, who offered their own spin of The Three Little Pigs.
A mother pig asked that her three lazy piglets fend for themselves and move out of her house. They were later reunited when the mother's house fell and they all moved into the brick house which the bad wolf could not destroy.
There were positive messages from Fabian "Dandelion" Jones on HIV/AIDS, and St Martin's Mangrove Primary
School on protecting the children from violence and abuse.
Junior Strings, under the direction of Joy Knight-Lynch, Deanne Kennedy, Hearts Of Worship, Praise Academy Of Dance and Eggs also performed.
Proceeds will go toward charities.
