Raiders, Blazers rule

STRUCTURAL Systems Silver Raiders and DFC Blazers are the new Barbados Workers' Union (BWU) knockout netball queens.
Raiders turned the tables on League champions Legends Ballers, coming from a goal down at the end of the first quarter to win 51-45 in the senior final recently.
Ballers had taken a 14-13 lead but Raiders stormed back to lead 27-26 at half-time. They turned the match on its head with a polished third-quarter display when they outscored their opponents 14-10 to move to a comfortable 41-36 advantage.
Lanky goal-shooter Laurel Browne had the hot hands for Raiders, netting 36 goals from 41 attempts, while former national mid-court star Cheryl Piggott, who has switched to goal attack in recent years, scored 15 of her 28 shots.
For Legend Ballers, long-serving Barbados basketballer Andrea Puckerin netted 31 goals from 38 tries as goal-shooter, while another former Barbados netballer, Margaret Greaves, nailed 14 of 19 shots at goal-attack.
In the Junior Knockout final, DFC Blazers ended the golden run of Tri Mart Rev Squad with a comfortable 28-15 victory after leading 12-7 at half-time.
Tri Mart, who came second last in the League competition, gave an improved performance with every match in the Knockout competition, as they defeated Bryden V8 Splash and Police enroute to the final.
Goal-attack Linda Walrond netted 14 from 24 for Tri Mart, while goal-shooter Therese Fredericks took only four shots and scored one goal.
For the winners, goal-attack Nicole Weekes led the way with 14 goals from 24 attempts, while goal-shooters Charmaine Hoyte and Corlita Roberts netted five and nine goals from nine and 14 attempts respectively.
Carlton Club won the third-place match by default from CBC Socaholics, who did not turn up.
The presentation ceremony is scheduled for December 5 at Solidarity House at 6:30 p.m. (EZS)
