Pro Shottas, Genesis in battle for top spot
Published on: 11/28/07.
PRO SHOTTAS are still holding on at the top of the points table in the Barbados Football Association's Women's League.
But defending champions Eve Genesis have cut the goal difference between the two teams to just one with two matches left.
After the Shottas registered an important 3-2 victory over the National Sports Council (NSC) on Saturday, Genesis went on a goal-feast the following day, blanking Haynesville 11-0 in matches at Blenheim.
Both teams are locked on 33 points from 11 wins and a solitary loss in 12 games, and this year's title could be decided on goal difference should they win their final two matches.
Pro Shottas have scored 86 goals and conceded nine, while Genesis have 90 goals for and 12 against.
In the most keenly contested match last weekend, Pro Shottas led 3-0 at half-time following a double strike by Kycia Knight (9th and 42nd) and a 44th-minute goal by Aailyah Alleyne.
But the NSC girls came storming back in the second half, courtesy a double strike by Shakira Rowe in the 65th and 69th. However, the Shottas defended stoutly in the last 21 minutes to keep the Sports Council from gaining the equaliser.
On Sunday, the Barbados Women's Football Academy pipped St John Combined 1-0, through a 16th minute goal by Deandra Dottin.
