OPPOSITION SHADOW spokesman for health, Senator Dr Denis Lowe, says the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) is relieved that Government has finally listened to reason.
Speaking to the WEEKEND NATION yesterday after it was announced that all students of Louis Lynch Secondary School would be accommodated elsewhere from Tuesday, Lowe said it was the DLP's position that students, staff and teachers should not be placed at risk while waiting for a conclusion on the status of the environment at the school.
"We cannot afford to expose our children to uncertainties where they may have long-term detrimental effects to their health in the future, when the easier solution would have been to do then what was done today.
"We hope no long-term damage has been done and we hope Government would be prepared to listen to those who are impacted upon by circumstances such as these," he said.
The Christ Church East political hopeful said Government should be proactive and seek to award compensation where there was documented evidence that the health of persons at the school was compromised as a result of conditions there.
Lowe commended the agitation of the Concerned Citizens Groupto have the children removed from the school.
Meanwhile in a Press release yesterday, that group said the health of the children had been its sole concern and now they had been relocated, they could both breathe a sigh of relief.
The Concerned Citizens Group wished the children well and encouraged them to work diligently to catch up on their studies. (WG)
