VETERAN BROADCASTER PATRICK "PG" GOLLOP is tipped to become the new general manager at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC).
A well-placed source told the DAILY NATION yesterday Gollop was named to take over the position soon, although no start date was given.
However, Gollop denied any knowledge of the appointment yesterday.
Gollop, the former manager of radio services at Starcom Network Incorporated, was dismissed last year July from that position by management of the station.
The 57-year-old started his broadcasting career in 1968 when Starcom was then known as Barbados Rediffusion. He also hosted two popular programmes Road Runner on Voice Of Barbados radio station and the cancelled Heartbreak Hotel, also on that station.
Last month,, David Wright, chief executive officer of HBW Management Group, was announced as the interim general manager, to hold the position for at least four months.
Prior to Wright, Claude Graham came out of retirement to serve as interim general manager following the resignation of Dr Allyson Leacock on November 15, 2006.
Efforts to reach Prime MinisterDavid Thompson for confirmation of Gollop's appointment were unsuccessful. (TM)
