Rising Stars two hot to trot

TRISTAN EVELYN and Kenrisha Brathwaite of Rising Stars emerged the top female athletes at the 7th BC Trac Young Olympians meet which was held at the Carlton Ground last Saturday.
Both athletes finished with 30 points. Evelyn, 10, won the Under-11 Girls' 60 metres in 9.32 seconds, the 100 metres in 14.84 seconds and set the only record, 40.39 metres in the cricket ball throw.
Sixteen-year-old Brathwaite won the Under-17 Girls' 100 metres in 12.92 seconds, the 200 metres in 27.44 seconds and the 300 metres hurdles.
Daeandre Harris,10, of Elite Distance was the top male athlete with 24 points, winning the Under-11 Boys' 100 metres in 16.02 seconds. He was second in the 60 metres in 9.99 seconds, just behind Akeel Stoute (9.97) of the National Sports Council's Development Squad and third in the cricket ball throw with 25.92 metres. That event was won by BC Trac's Raneil Smith with 36 metres.
Jamarley Toney of BC Trac finished with 20 points, winning the Under-13 Boys' 800 metres in two minutes 30.99 seconds and the 400 metres in 1:04.69, while Shakir Sandiford of Rising Stars won the Under-15 Boys' 400 metres in 57.29 seconds and edged Shaquille Hollingsworth (25.08) on the line in the 200 metres in 24.90 seconds.
