Glendairy to house police exhibits

THE FORMER Glendairy Prisons site will be the new home for bulky exhibits now taking up valuable space at District "A" Police Station.
Attorney-General Dale Marshall made this disclosure yesterday after a tour of the new, ultra-modern prison under construction at Dodds, St Philip. He added that the police had indicated a need for a "pound" to store their exhibits.
He said he had advised them to first seek permission from the Ministry of Housing to utilise buildings at Glendairy that were still standing.
Marshall said if this did not occur, it would have cost Government $3 million to construct storage facilities to house police exhibits.
"I felt that we could save the taxpayers a tremendous amount of money if we could simply convert that facility there to be used as a pound.
"At this point of time through the generosity of the superintendent [of prisons], that action has started but policy decisions would have to be made by central Government as what else is going to be happening to Glendairy."
He said when one entered the District "A" Complex, there were large boats "just sitting" in the yard and this contributed to space constraints.
However, Marshall pointed out he was not in a position to say what the future was for the remaining Glendairy buildings and how long the exhibits would be stored there. (JW)
