Nation rides on minibus
Published on: 7/3/08.
THE DAILY NATION team yesterday at 3 p.m. boarded a Hillaby/Jackson minibus at Fontabelle, observing how the BETMP succeeded in emptying Bridgetown of traffic.
The bus travelled north to Holborn before turning right onto President Kennedy Drive, then up through Eagle Hall, Spooners' Hill, Green Hill up to Warrens. It was done in under ten minutes.
It was soon clear that most commuters had clearly heard about the plan in advance and decided to stay away. What traffic there was, was competently directed by the green-jacketed officers who were much in evidence at every intersection.
However, the absence of most of the normal Bridgetown traffic had left them without much work to do and more than one officer seemed visibly bored. (MS)
