LEGENDS "A" are the Barbados Table Tennis Association's new Division 3 champions.
The Antonio Pilgrim-led team, playing in only its second year of competition, recently won the 2008 title by blowing away Diamonds International Henry's Lane "B" 4-0 at the Table Tennis Centre, John Beckles Drive, Constitution Road, St Michael.
And in the third-place play-off, the Diamonds International-sponsored Henry's Lane got a consolation victory when its "A" team defeated Central Bank 4-2 to bring the curtain down on the Division 3 competition.
Sherlock Small, a former Division 2 Fire Power player, turned out for Legends "A" and added depth to its team which was playing with a man short for much of the season.
He defeated the improving Roseanne Butcher in straight games, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6.
World Go As You Please draughts champion Ronald "Suki" King then made it 2-0 with a hard-fought win over a very competitive Nadia Payne who took him the full five games.
King won the first two games at 4 and 10, but Payne rebounded brilliantly to tie up the set 2-2 by winning the third and fourth games 11-7, 11-6. King then eased home 13-11 in the final game.
Pilgrim maintained the advantage by defeating the youthful Anthonette Riley 11-6, 11-9, 11-9 which gave Legends "A" a 3-0 advantage.
Pilgrim and Small then teamed up to beat Butcher and Payne, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8. (TE)
