FAST BOWLERS Barrington Yearwood and Khalid Springer shared six wickets to bowl CGI Maple to a comprehensive innings and 24-run victory over Oran/Carib Bristol in a one-sided battle of the northern teams, in a Caribbean Alliance/ BGI Insurances BCA Division 1 match at Trents, yesterday.
Facing a deficit of 134 runs after Maple declared at their overweek score of 202 for eight, Bristol were routed for the paltry total of 110 in their second innings, losing the match half an hour after tea.
Dadrian Forde topscored with 33, as Yearwood took three for 12, and Springer, three for 19, to secure bragging rights over a Bristol side which included three Maple players from last season: Jason Worrell, Jamar Griffith and Dave Roach. (LH)
AT BECKLES ROAD: Super Centre Spartan leg-spinning captain Shamarh Brooks produced a career-best performance as their game with Caribbean Lumber YMPC petered out into a tame draw.
With the loss of the second day to the weather, the only interest in this game was for bonus points but Brooks, with figures of six for 23 from 13 overs, denied YMPC a single batting point, while his team received full bowling points.
The day started with YMPC in pursuit of Spartan's first day total of 225. After the early loss of Steve Blackett with the score on 17, left-handed Adrian Maynard opening the batting because only three YMPC players were at the ground at the start of play proceeded to thrash the Parkites all over Beckles Road.
Maynard struck 12 threes and two fours on his way to his highest Division One score of 63.
After a second-wicket stand of 75 between Maynard and Jed Yearwood (36), YMPC crashed from 92 for one to 139 all out, as Brooks and left-armer Andre Marshall (four for 29) sliced through YMPC's middle and lower order.
Spartan, with a first innings lead of 86, were 90-4 in their second innings when stumps were drawn. Brooks' fine day continued as he scored 30, while Shane Brown notched up 22. (EH)
AT BLENHEIM: BRC BCL, led by a four-wicket haul by medium-pacer Omar Blackman, secured first innings lead over front-runners Police yesterday.
Police, chasing BCL's 283 made on the opening day the second day was washed out were dismissed for 234, with Blackman capturing four for 68.
The Police batting was led by veteran Stanton Proverbs, who made a solid 64, and opening batsman Dwayne Yearwood (61).
All-rounder Callitos Lopez, batting at No.8, smashed 45, but no one else reached 20 and the home team were able to dictate proceedings. (DH)
AT HIGHGATE: The usually belligerent Banks had to settle for first innings points against ESA Field Pickwick in their Division 1 encounter after Pickwick batted for most of the day.
Following the disappointment of last week's washout, Banks, in reply to Pickwick, declared after adding 11 to their overweek score, securing a slender 23 runs lead on first innings.
However, diligent batting from Pickwick, led by half-centuries from Kyle Hope (61) and opener Jason Gilkes (50), as well as supporting roles from Antonio Thomas (33) and the evergreen Ahmed Proverbs (31), kept Banks in the field until 5.16 p.m. when the innings folded for 250.
Needing 228 in 16 overs was always an impossible task and Banks needlessly lost four wickets before common sense prevailed and it was decided to call it a day. (WL)
