A-G: Phase 1 report ready on Arch Cot
Published on: 12/17/07.
THE REPORT on the stability of the Arch Cot area in Brittons Hill, St Michael, should be in Attorney-General Dale Marshall's hands today.
But residents displaced by the August 26 tragedy that claimed the lives of the five-member Codrington family will have to wait a while longer to find out what their future holds.
"I met with the consultants and they have given us their findings. I will have the final report on Phase 1 on Monday [today]. Before I make anything public it has to go to Cabinet first and then we will have a public meeting to apprise residents of the findings," he told the DAILY NATION yesterday.
The Phase 1 report relates to the epicentre of the area immediately surrounding the collapsed area and bound by Brittons X Roads.
The results should inform Government's decisions on houses in the immediate vicinity of Arch Cot.
There will be a Phase 2 report that will cover the area to the east of Brittons X Road, going towards Collymore Rock.
This report is expected to be completed by March, and should inform the Attorney-General's Office on the long-term stability.
Marshall said last month that the reports would let Government know whether the geological structures were strong, whether there were more caves around, and if these were at risk of collapse.
The technical team, he added, would give recommendations on whether any or all of the buildings in the immediate area should be demolished.
Marshall spoke with the DAILY NATION at Grantley Adams Memorial Secondary School, Blackmans, St Joseph, where his annual Christmas luncheon was held. (DS)
