Clerk accused of hospital theft

A CLERICAL OFFICER has been accused of stealing money and dishonestly obtaining services totalling $42 350 from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
Terry Leslie Anderson Burnett, 39, of Proute Road, My Lord's Hill, St Michael, was not required to plead to 17 charges when he appeared in the District "A" Magistrates' Court yesterday.
He is charged with stealing sums of money which were the proceeds of various Barbados National Bank cheques and which belonged to the QEH, ranging from $700 on April 5, 2005, to $8 275 on January 30, 2006.
Burnett was also charged that he dishonestly attempted to obtain $9 822 from the QEH, on October 5, 2006, by falsely representing that DT Freighting Services provided services the processing and clearing of a container worth $9 822 and that the company was entitled to payment for the service.
He was further charged with a similar offence for $27 140 for processing and clearing a CT Scan machine on October 5, 2006; $2 550 for transporting medical supplies; $3 200 for transporting medical supplies in September 2006, and $850 for providing freighting services on November 29, 2006.
Magistrate Pamela Beckles released him on two sureties of $25 000 each, confiscated his passport, and ordered him to report to the nearest police station every Wednesday and Saturday.
The accused, who was represented by Arthur Holder, returns to court on August 8. (HLE)
