History-making ride for Husbands

TORONTO Barbadian riding ace Patrick Husbands has a great chance of creating history in Canadian horse racing when he partners the outstanding filly Kimchi in today's Wonder Where Stakes, the final event in the fillies Triple Tiara series at Woodbine.
Husbands has already guided Kimchi to victory in the first two legs of the series, the Woodbine Oaks and the Bison City Stakes at Fort Erie, and the filly is favourite for today's CAN$250 000 Wonder Where Stakes over one-and-a-quarter miles.
No horse has ever completed the Triple Tiara, a rich three-race series for three-year-old fillies.
To claim the Wonder Where prize, the Manitoba-bred Kimchi will have to defeat 11 opponents, handle a new surface and negotiate a distance longer.
Trainer Mark Casse is happy with Kimchi's preparation. She looked lively at exercise gallops with Husbands up on a soft turf.
"Patrick was delighted," said Casse. "He said she loved the soft turf. I thought she'd actually like firmer turf. He knows her better than anybody," Casse said.
Two other Barbadian jockeys have secured rides in the race.
Slade Callaghan partners 30-1 outsider La Gran Marylin and Jono Jones Sprightly at 8-1. (CMC)
