NHC show house goes to family in need

YESTERDAY, at the crack of dawn, workmen from the National Housing Corporation (NHC) dismantled the third of its promotional hardwood houses at the corporation's Country Road, St Michael headquarters.
They then took it to a location at Lammings, St Joseph.
The NHC's deputy general manager George Edghill said the two-bedroom house will go to a "family who needs a house". The two-bedroom has been sited at Culloden Road, St Michael for a fire victim, and the one-bedroom is at Six Men's, St Peter.
Edghill said that the lack of financing had nothing to do with the length of time it took to resite the model houses and added that the Corporation had to seek Town Planning permission to move the houses first and this caused the delay.
In November 2004, Minister of Housing Elizabeth Thompson and NHC officials unveiled the houses at Country Road headquarters, each built for under $60 000. Several people viewed the houses.
The 420-square-foot one-bedroom was constructed by Bradvin's Enterprises Inc. while the second house, a large two-bedroom, is 500-square-feet. The contractor was KPM Building Solutions Inc.
The first house, a two-bedroom, was built by Steve Ifill of S and B Joinery. (DS)
