Call to treat all children fairly

MEMBER OF Parliament for St James North, Rawle Eastmond, has taken up the cause of children who are being "discriminated" against in the educational system.
Speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday, Eastmond expressed concern over the fact that the children of undocumented, non-national people were having difficulties enrolling in schools.
"A lot of innocent little children three, four and five are being denied entrance to our school system. A lot of children born here," he disclosed.
He queried whether an "innocent child" should be discriminated against on the basis that a parent was undocumented, and whether the welfare of the child should not be given priority.
Eastmond said there were cases where the adopted children of returning Barbadian males have trouble entering school as well.
"That is happening, too, and I want Government to be bold enough, innovative enough, creative enough, to ensure that small children, and not so small children, are not denied or refused an education on the basis of ancient immigration policies, which should no longer apply," Eastmond submitted.
