THE MINISTRY OF CIVIL SERVICE is taking steps to improve efficiency and improve productivity.
"The current system is an old colonial system and there is a need for a more modern approach," said deputy principal training officer in the training administration division, Harlow Broomes.
He was speaking to the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday during a break at a two-day strategic planning workshop at the Almond Bay Conference Centre, Hastings, Christ Church.
Broomes said the Civil Service was divided into three agencies: the Training Administration Division; the Personnel Administration Division; and the Civil Service Division that all needed to have a better relationship with each other.
"We need to come up with ways to better manage our training functions and look at the total development of the people in Government to see how the goals and objectives of the organisation can link with Governmental objectives."
Feature speaker was Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Service Senator Arni B. Walters.
"I am convinced that our discussions over the next two days will provide the foundation to strengthen the management and development of the Public Service and create an organisation that is accountable, motivated and resilient one that can move Barbados forward within a 21st century environment to being a 'First World' developed country," Walters said.
