BCA, Govt to talk on Oval

THE BARBADOS CRICKET ASSOCIATION (BCA) can proceed with talks with Government in relation to the ownership and management of Kensington Oval.
Back in February, a planned general meeting of the BCA to consider the redevelopment of Kensington Oval was halted when the High Court granted an injunction which was brought by two life members of the association.
However, on Tuesday night, the membership of the BCA met and approved a resolution which paved the way for the board and the Government to conclude a leasing agreement for the facility.
Under the arrangement, the BCA will lease the Oval to the Kensington Development Corporation and as previously, the Oval will be used for cricket and for the establishment of the Centre of Excellence.
The Government now will be responsible for setting up the marketing agency which will market and maintain the facility.
The BCA will receive $1.6 million plus Value Added Tax every year for the lease of the facility.
Members are not convinced that the lease should be as long as 99 years and have proposed that the BCA negotiate with Government in seeking a much shorter time period. (MK)
