THE OLYMPIC Solidarity Technical Course for coaches in archery concluded on Monday with the awards ceremony at the Lucky Horseshoe restaurant.
This course, the first for archery in Barbados, was adjudged to be a resounding success by president of the Barbados Archery Association John Annel and coaches Lloyd Browne, jnr, and Bob Romero.
Twenty-eight archers, including three from Trinidad and Tobago, took part in this Level 2 coaching programme which equipped them with the tools to analyse the shooting techniques of other archers.
The course was divided into theoreticial sessions at the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) and practical practices on field at the Barbados Archery Association's range.
The two world-class master coaches, provided by International Federation of Archery, were high in praise for the quality of archers seen. They were impressed with top female archer Angela Jones and felt she had a good chance to qualify for the Olympics at her qualifier in Boe, France in late June.
Out of the course four coaches will be identified for further training.
Secretary general of the BOA Inc. Erskine Simmons presented the certificates to the participants and Cameron Burke, assistant secretary of the BOA, gave the closing remarks.
The archers will return to training for their national championships slated for May 9 to 12 which will be used to choose a team to travel to Trinidad at the end of May for the southern Caribbean Archery Championships. (PR)
