C. O. WILLIAMS RANGERS NETBALL TEAM hammered Smalta Carlton 46-25 in the fourth round of matches which took place at the Netball Stadium, Waterford, St Michael, on Friday night.
It was a low-scoring Division 1 affair in the first quarter as both teams began the match quite cautiously and in the process missed several scoring opportunities. The quarter ended 12-7 in favour of the Rangers.
In the second quarter, Rangers continued to apply pressure with their in-form goal-shooter Linda Harris and goal-attackers Nikitta Piggott and Salisha Auguste who were in excellent touch, scoring a high percentage of their shots.
On the other hand, the Carlton girls continued to struggle with their rhythm, missing a number of scoring opportunities. The second quarter ended with Rangers extending their lead to 24-15.
In the second half the Rangers trio of Harris, Piggott and Auguste continued their combined attack on the Carlton half of the court with their precision shooting from every angle. With frustration mounting, in addition to the scoreboard, the Carlton girls simply could not find an answer to the onslaught as the third quarter ended 34-21.
With victory in sight and before them images of a tired and deflated Carlton, Rangers kept the scorers busy reeling off goal after goal to end the final quarter scoring 12 goals to the solitary four from Carlton.
The next round of Division 1 matches will take place tomorrow when Pine Hill St Barnabas will come up against Banks Spurs.
