Henry's Lane still to be beaten

DIAMONDS INTERNATIONAL HENRY'S LANE "A" and "B" maintained their unbeaten records when Division 3 action continued at the Table Tennis Centre, John Beckles Drive, Constitution Road, The City on Friday night.
The "A" team dismissed Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) 4-0, while the "B" team beat Kilowatt 4-1 to set up a thrilling clash between these two teams shortly.
In the match-up against BUT, the "A" team's Lisa Collymore stopped Philip Hackett in four games 11-8, 11-5, 9-11, 11-3; Megan Steinbok then blew away Shakira Waithe at 8, 1 and 3; Albert Collymore Snr. routed Wayne Robinson 11-5, 11-4, 11-6; while Lisa Collymore and Steinbok teamed up in the doubles and defeated Hackett and Waithe in straight games 11-5, 11-2, 11-4.
Despite going under 1-4, Kilowatt was a bit more competitive against Henry's Lane "B" with Edwin Jordan providing Kilowatt with their lone set, while their doubles team of Jordan and Julien Ifill made the "B" team's pair of Roseanne Butcher and Nadia Payne pull out all the stops before going under in five games.
Jordan's opponent was Caribbean cadet gold medallist Anthonette Riley and he defeated her 11-7, 11-6, 11-8; while Butcher and Payne had to fight tooth and nail to overcome a very determined Jordan and Ifill in five games 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-9.
Henry's Lane "B" team's other three wins came from Butcher who defeated Ifill 11-8, 11-7, 11-8; and Nadia Payne who beat Rhea Jackman 11-2, 11-3, 11-2 and Ifill 11-6, 11-7, 11-8.
A depleted Central Bank team were forced to default two sets to Sharon "A" and this enabled the school team to beat the bankers 4-3 in a closely fought encounter.
Sharon's "A" two wins on the board came off the racquets of Nicholas Jackman and Dylan Herbert-Clarke. Jackman lost the first game at 6 to Maureen Wiltshire, but he bounced back to win the next three games 11-6, 11-7, 11-6, while Herbert-Clarke edged out Wiltshire 11-9, 13-11, 11-9.
Ronnie Cummins provided Central Bank with their three wins by defeating Herbert-Clarke 11-3, 11-3, 11-3 and Rakim Hinds 11-5, 11-7, 11-2; while he teamed up with Wiltshire in the doubles and they defeated Jackman and Hinds in straight games 11-3, 11-6, 11-8.
In other matches, Barbados Defence Force beat Combined Schools 4-0, Legends "A" inflicted a 4-1 beating on Sharon "B", while Fast Loopers overcame Legends "B" 4-2.(TE)
