Collymore to play for Sussex

ANOTHER BARBADIAN FAST BOWLER has put himself out of line for West Indies selection.
Corey Collymore, ignored by the regional selectors for the past year, has signed a one-year contract with English county side Sussex under the Kolpak ruling.
His chance to play for the reigning champions comes after the club's first choice, Australian Ryan Harris was no longer available.
"The call from Sussex the other day was a very welcome one," Collymore said.
"I've been itching to come and play county cricket and to be picked by the champions has filled me with confidence. I'm ready to give it my all and can't wait to get started."
The 30-year-old Collymore was Barbados' captain during the 2008 Carib Beer Series in which he had a very disappointing season with the ball, capturing two wickets in four matches, but he is ranked at No. 11 in the International Cricket Council's Test rankings.
He last appeared for the West Indies at the 2007 World Cup and his latest signing will effectively put him out of West Indies selection.
The Kolpak ruling is a judgment in the European Court of Justice in May 2004 which stipulates that if a person is a national of a country which has an association agreement with the European and that person is in possession of a valid British work permit, he must be treated for the purposes of employment as if he was a citizen of an European Union country.
Collymore follows fellow Barbadian Pedro Collins, who is attached to Surrey, as the latest West Indian to signed a county contract under the Kolpak ruling.
Another Barbados pacer, Tino Best, is also out of West Indies contention after playing in the breakaway Indian Cricket League. (HG)
