A MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR housing development is coming to Waterford, St Michael a project of The Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT).
BUT president Karen Best confirmed to the BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY that planning permission had come through, and work will begin very shortly at the 12-acre site, acquired as an investment 30 years ago.
The area, more commonly known as Riley's pasture, will be transformed by apartments, town houses, a medical centre and other buildings, constructed in four phases.
Best said Phase 1 consisted of 20 housing lots on nine-and-a-half acres of land. These lots were already sold to teachers and other members of the public.
Lot sizes, she said, range from 5 990 square feet to 8 846 square feet and range in price from about $119 114 to $176 938.
Proceeds from the sale of the lots would be used to provide roads and other infrastructure, Best said.
Phase 2 will produce a block of six three-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments; one block of 12 two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments; a block of six two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartments, and a block with 12 two-bedroom town houses.
Phases 3 and 4 would see construction of a multipurpose hall, a medical facility, day-care centre as well as a commercial centre.
Best said the project would be executed by a local contractor and disclosed that an offical ground-breaking ceremony would be held shortly.
