OFF-SPINNER ANTHONY MORRIS took five for 47 as Cable and Wireless recorded a commanding five-wicket victory over Wanderers on a bouncy pitch yesterday.
After stumbling with the early loss of both openers when the score was only four, the home team then rallied against some defensive bowling to score the 102 that was set by Wanderers in 46 overs.
Their chase for victory was made difficult by left-arm fast bowler Ian Bradshaw who claimed three wickets from his 12 overs.
Bradshaw was struck for four in his first over by Randy Thomas, but two balls later trapped the same batsman leg before.
Bradshaw also accounted for Courtney Browne after topscoring with 30 and later Brian Johnson. Both batsmen were taken by Ray Armstrong at midwicket.
Browne, after striking Bradshaw for two boundaries, offered an easy catch to Armstrong but the same fielder brought off a spectacular catch when he had to run towards the boundary for one that was skied by Johnson.
Earlier, the Wanderers batsmen failed to come to grips with a wicket that was offering much assistance.
They had only added six runs to their overweek score of 31 when Delroy Jacobs was caught by Browne at first slip off fast bowler Corey Edwards for 12.
Edwards also accounted for wicket-keeper Renaldo Arthur after giving his opposite number an easy catch behind. But Marvin Forde, who struck a topscore of 43, including three fours and one six, and Armstrong, who made 34 before being last out, gave some resistance until they finally folded for 133.
Edwards ended with three for 40, but Morris was the toast of Cable & Wireless when he added three more wickets to his overweek two.
