Ince to lead team in T&T

THE THREE-DAY Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championships (CAJGC) get underway on July 8 at St Andrews Golf Club, Moca, in Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados will be represented in five of the six age groups.
The squad is captained by Mary Ince, a bronze medallist from last year's competition, and she will play in the 17-and-under age group. Robbie McGuire will represent Barbados in the 17-and-under age category in the boys' section.
McGuire, who attends secondary school in England, has been playing a lot of golf recently and is in very good form.
In the boys' 14 to 15 age group, Barbados will depend on the trio of Warren Bynoe, Dane DaSilva and Simon Proverbs. Bynoe was last year's 13-and-under champion and Proverbs recently qualified to play for Barbados in the prestigious Hoerman Cup. DaSilva is a four handicap at the Rockley Golf Club.
The 13-and-under age group will be represented by Serena Smith, who placed third last year. The boys' 13-and-under players are Donald Leacock and James Pritchard.
Leacock, at 12, is already a veteran at these championships having represented Barbados on two occasions. James Pritchard is a rookie, but has improved with hard work over the last year to earn his place on the team.
Richard Proverbs has been appointed manager of the team, while Denny Foster is the coach.
"It's going to be difficult to win individual age groups at Moca," Foster said. "The Trinidadians will be very tough on their home course, but our players are very talented. Mary Ince, for instance, won the Garry Sobers Golf Championships in April, and Warren has shown that he can win at this level.
"Simon is a past CAJGC champion and is now a Hoerman Cup player. Serena Smith was a medallist last year so she knows what it's all about. I expect our team to do really well," said Foster.
This is the 21st championships and Barbados have been represented every year since the inaugural event in 1988. (PR)
