Guyana officials unhappy with batting

GUYANA'S management team is concerned about the side's batting even though the reigning champions won their opening TCL Group West Indies Under-19 cricket match by five wickets over the Leeward Islands just after tea on Sunday.
Guyana won the low-scoring fixture at Kensington Oval when they chased 134 to win.
But both coach Hubern Evans and manager Alvin Johnson weren't impressed with what they saw.
"I am disappointed with the top order in both innings," Evans said after the match.
"Apart from [Jeetendra] Sookdeo and Chesney Hughes from the Leeward Islands, the top order batting on both teams here was very ordinary. (Anthony) Bramble batted well in the lower order for us and I am hoping that the batsmen can settle down and show a big improvement in our next game," Evans added.
Johnson said the batsmen needed to improve but felt they had the ability to win the tournament again.
"The batting continues to be a worry, but the players are all talented and I believe we have what it takes to retain the title once we all play to our full potential," Johnson said.
With their win, Guyana moved into an early championship lead with Barbados, who defeated the Windward Islands by seven wickets in their match at 3Ws Oval.
Barbados and Guyana lead with 12 points, followed by Jamaica, who earned six first-innings points from their drawn match against Trinidad and Tobago (3) at Banks Brewery.
In the second round starting tomorrow, Guyana will play the Windwards, Barbados face Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica play the Leeward Islands. (CMC)
