REFURBISHMENT of the Barbados Agricultural Society's (BAS) headquarters at The Grotto, Beckles Road, St Michael, has begun.
Chief executive officer James Paul said the first phase of the reconstruction project was scheduled to be completed by December 18.
"Construction started around two weeks ago . . . . We are replacing the flooring on the second floor, as well as doing some painting," he said.
Paul, speaking to the DAILY NATION on Tuesday, said the BAS was looking at hosting fund-raising activities to raise the money to continue the work and hoped some of the funds raised by Agrofest would help.
He said the estimated cost of the refurbishment was $500 000, but the BAS would have it done in stages, depending on the availability of funds.
Paul said the BAS hoped to finish construction within the current financial year, but added no decision had yet been made by the board. (CA)
