Xtra Hype deserved better at Dance Fest

Published on: 2/9/2010.

AFTER ATTENDING the Community Dance Fest competition, I could not believe what I saw.

The situation surrounding the technical issues experienced by defending champions Xtra Hype could have been handled differently. The organisers could have allowed them to sort out the problems and have them return later to do their act.

These young men came with a very positive message that needs addressing in our schools today: bullying in schools. The audience, both young and experienced, agreed that it was a very important topic that had gone unnoticed for too long. Their dance concept was dedicated to the 11-year-old boy from Princess Margaret School, the late Ian Gibson.

Even though they had technical difficulties, these young men, on their third appearance, delivered a very well choreographed, yet simple dance routine, allowing the audience to focus on the seriousness of the message they were trying to get across.

It was one of the most meaningful performances of the night, yet they were not even placed in the top three.

The problems with Xtra Hype's music were never resolved and I later learned from a member of the group that they had three CDs, and at the grand rehearsal (the night before the big show) everything was fine.

What was done to Xtra Hype was downright rude. But these humble young men did not create a scene.

Don't worry, guys, in our hearts, you will always be winners. You are doing a great job. Don't let the situation get to you.

God bless you, Xtra Hype, and keep on that positive path. Love you.

I was there too Ms Dickson .We must recognise that computers are man made and will malfunction too .The CD'S were said to be working fine the night before the show but as i said before these things happen .It was unfortunate though what transpired .I must commend these young men for their courage ,bravery and sheer will power .On the number of times they started over . Good sportsmanship . I do not believe the organisers are to blame for what was not a human error . Though Xtra Hype had those challenges i do not believe that was reason enough for them to be placed automatically in the top three .There were several good and note worthy performances that night also .The judges decision is still final .
