THE National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) is hoping to meet with the Ministry of Education soon to discuss the case of clerk/typists at the Barbados Community College (BCC), who have been on the job as temporary employees for up to 15 years.
General secretary Dennis Clarke said in a telephone interview yesterday that the situation was "highly unacceptable" and had to be given priority.
"They're acting in positions where it would appear as though the posts have not been established and therefore they're being denied an appointment," Clarke said.
He noted the matter was raised last year and again in January, but nothing had been done.
He said the NUPW had indicated that where vacancies existed, the workers should be given the first option.
"Our investigation revealed this has not been the case," Clarke added.
He is suggesting a joint meeting with both the Ministry of Education and Ministry of the Civil Service to settle the matter. (DS)

These people have been in these positions for so long and you NOW want to fight? I guess when times good everything else is good but when times are bad then everything is fodder for the fire.
