Local Bajans are too. It is expensive. When I visit I stay with family, eat at Chefette or family and rent a car and visit in the summer when it is cheaper.

BOSTON USA: I say you should be Prime Minister. Right- we don't need those Tourists let them stay where they are. We ain't hungry. The hotels can shut their doors and send the workers home to relax, the Taxi drivers can park their vehicles at home and lime, and all the vendors on the beach can start selling to the locals. The water sports people can take themselves for a ride. While you are thinking can you come up what we can do to replace Tourism. Oh, I nearly forgot and don't let in those cruise ships either.
Use Some Common Sense : 12/10/2009
The BTA needs to do some realistic market studies among average working class people to determine what prices the market will support, and seek to find ways to make sure that there are travel options for all economic strata. They can no longer expect to cater only to the wealthy tourist. There are other destinations out there that offer the same "Sun & Sand" for a much lower price. There needs to be a push for a national or regional airline that can provide more reliable and reasonable air service to and from the US. Delta with their stop-&-go service is not cutting it, and American Airlines treats us like cattle compared to our South-American counterparts. A national airline with consistant service to to the US would do wonders to improve tourist numbers. There also needs to be a push to recognize Barbadians living abroad as potential tourists and cater accomodation packages for this market. There nothing wrong with having 5-Star hotels, but we have to remember that there are far more 3-Star travelers in world than 5-Star travelers. Catering to the low-mid price market allows you to diversify and hedge against the various trends in the tourism market.

The world is changing the days of when the tourist came to Barbados and spent lots of pounds and dollars is on the decline why? the very rich who came to Barbados are being entice elsewere the average Tourist who works all year and save for their holiday are looking for value for money at present Barbados is too expensive for this type of tourist because the accommodation is very expensive, the attractions are so expensive that no wonder the local people cannot even afford to use them, you go to hire a car this is also expensive. Therefore the tourist will begin to look elsewhere which will offer value for money. Why have such expensive hotels and apartments sometimes the money charge for an apartmnt or house to rent is so expensive that sometimes it is better to pay a little extra and go for all inclusive this is a better deal for the tourist. Please tourist industry get your act together go and learn from other tourist distinations.

Why visit Barbados? : 12/7/2009
I am a Barbadian living in Atlanta, Georia. Recently I organize a group of Atlantans for a 7 day trip to Barbados. Each member of the group back out of the trip when I quoted them the hotel prices and cost of food.
This should be a wakeup call for the tourism board. If tourism is the Barbadian lifeline, then you had better start showing some apprecation for your visitors by lowering your rediculous prices. Remember, tourist have options. If you continue with this madness, losing tourists to the island wll be the least of your worries.
Barbados needs more deals!!! : 12/7/2009
Why is it cheaper to visit other Caribbean island? Deals, deals and more deals!!! I wanted to visit Barbados for Christmas but there were no “deals”. Instead, I am going to Mexico and will stay at a 5 star hotel for less than a 3 star in Barbados
personality of the decade : 12/7/2009
/ who is the barbadian [personality of the decade/ a decade is ten years.why.ms rihanna
how old is she /please barbadian use you senses
mr holder great for him .but these people only came to lightin the pass two years, what an insult .there are other who are not mention (LONDON)
Big mistake : 12/6/2009
There are only a very very few people that come looking for 5 star hotels, why should we just build 5star properties or have 5 star prices at every hotels.People had realise this long time ago.a few 5 star is ok,just go to a place where it is cheaper and see the result.
What about the locals : 12/6/2009
What about the locals the English pound & Euros are very strong, tourist get duty free we dont what more do these people want do you expect to give them every thing free, what about our poor local people?
: 12/6/2009
I think we only have the hotel sector to blame, every hotel that goes up in Barbados is luxury, every new development is mega millions and caters only for the rich.Mr.Capaldi it seems people like you the government all the developers and the barbados tourist board is now realising that we will make a better living from the ordinary working class tourist.I am a Bajan that travel all over the world and Barbados is not very expensive, the europeans should be the last to complain when they currency is 3-4 times ours.Anyhow Asia is the cheapest place to travel and you can travel through Europe on Ryan Air and other carriers for nothing. So my message to Mr.Capaldi and his crew crave all loose all give the people of Barbados some concession not the tourist.
BHTA : 12/6/2009
If the BHTA wants to fill rooms and planes the hotels, car rentals and other agencies should not be asking the visitor what can deal can be offered to keep you interested. The BHTA should be offering deals through their various agencies local and international to attract tourist to the island. Barbados has the same sea and sand as many other islands in the Caribbean and Latin America and for years have been charging and providing nothing, what do you expect now, you have nothing to offer that would make me want to come to your shores in this economic downturn. Either reduce your hotel rates, offer breakfast and lunch and maybe they will come and stay longer. Airlines have discounted flights so much that you can book a flight from B'dos to NY for as little as USD$99 and vice versa why should the visitor continue to pay you USD$350-$450 a night for a room. The BHTA is too greedy, greed will be your downfall
Visitors want more bang for buck : 12/5/2009
If visitors are complaining about prices in Barbados and they can find the airfare to fly out of their country and stay in a hotel, can you imagine what the cost of living is like for those of us who live in Barbados. It is extremely high for locals too and there are no concessions for us.... f
to expensive : 12/5/2009
yes here we go again they killing the hen that lay the goldenegg just like the sugarcane soon it will soon disappear
: 12/5/2009
There have been complaints that the high prices are due to high taxes which are linked to a high import bill.
Are there any numbers to substantiate these complaints? Who has the information and are they willing to share it?
Perhaps one of our local entrepreneurs can find the solution if Government cannot.
Tourism : 12/5/2009
We will be spending over 3 weeks in Barbados at Christmas. Not all of us are Bajan. We would like to see some deals offered even in high season. Food and tour discounts would be great. It's quite expensive for a family of 4 or more when tours are $85US and such. Everyone can't travel in low season as children are in school or other obligations. Everything costs more at high season, from accommodation to plane tickets. It would be great to save on something for a change. The average tourist work and save like crazy for a holiday so every penny counts.
Too expensive : 12/5/2009
Barbados has become too expensive. Trends in northern europe (and perhaps other places too) is to go to asian destinations. It`s not a problem finding a 5 star hotel for 100 US. It is not a problem going out for a dinner for 5 US a person, and may be even less.
The hotels is of a exellent standards, so why not? I have been to Barbados many times, but later also to several asian destinations, such as Thailand, Malaysisa, Indonesia. It is as beautiful as Barbados, but for what I pay for a day in Barbados, I get 4 days in these places.
I love Barbados. But to me, it don`t give enough value for money.
Visitors want more bang for their bucks : 12/5/2009
I am so glad that Mr Capaldi and others in the tourism industries are now coming to their senses, it took a long time but realty is setting in. Price and service is the only marketing tool that will save you. You need to give back something to your long time and repeat visitors or you will loose them also. This is now your test of loyalty to your customers. The goose has now stoped laying the golden eggs, now it is time to feed and take care of the goose or you will not see any golden eggs again. Good Luck!!!!
Where is the bang in this paradise : 12/5/2009
Tourists not using hired cars, taking transport board buses instead or having the cold chill of ZR's sometimes; using cheaper accommodation including an unstructured exchange visitors programme with natives, purchasing meals from the vans on the street and little cookshops elsewhere (some of whom are also getting greedy and will soon outprice themselves), getting tired of the concrete jungle, having to compete with crime here at the same level as their homeland, garbage problems, !! If I were a tourist I would ask for a deal too!
