JUST ONE YEAR after the feat, the one man to have paddled around Barbados is preparing to do it again.

Only this time, Brian "The Action Man" Talma won't be going alone.

The two-time Olympian and international windsurfer headlines a four-man contingent set to paddle surf around the country in an effort to promote the sport and his "beach culture" brand as a boost to Barbados' sports tourism.

Talma told WEEKENDSPORT that he, his brother Kevin, Kyle Harris and Jimmy Marshall intend to make the trek, dubbed The Last Man Standing, at the end of the month after widespread doubts over his first islandwide surf.

"I strongly believe that we have to redefine our tourist sector," said Talma at his Action Beach Shop in Silver Sands.

"Beach culture must be something we can use to identify as Barbadian, just like how reggae music is Jamaican."

And the world renowned surfer believes that the fast-rising sport can give the country a means of exclusivity in attracting foreign interest through the sports tourism market.

"Paddle surfing is now one of the fastest growing sports in the world and has huge potential in sports tourism as a product that people will come to Barbados to do," Talma said.

"And I don't mean as a mere five-day event, but all year round tourists come here because we have the natural conditions to paddle surf. We don't have to fly in any Astro Turfs or build any multi-million dollar stadia."

After 25 years of promoting Barbados, Talma also believes that the country wasted his international acclaim, as well as that of Olympic bronze medallist Obadele Thompson but hopes that Barbadians "get it right" with World champion hurdler Ryan Brathwaite.

"People always used to tell me that we didn't put Oba to good use, and I agree with them because I offered to help market him, and now we have Ryan, so I will see what direction they're going to go with him."
