Joint plan on warming urged

Published on: 11/5/2009.

ACTING BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER Phil Culligan has called for a unified effort to combat the threat of rising temperatures.

Speaking ahead of a film premiere on climate change at the Errol Barrow Centre last Wednesday evening, Culligan said leaders must join forces in order to effect a well-needed change.

"We have the opportunity, we have the technology to stop this particular vision of the future, but we must act now to do so," he said.

"Adaptation plans and policies will be part of the answer but leaders around the world must work together to get the political conditions right to prevent the dangerous climate change."

Culligan added that while the efforts to achieve a better environment must be done now, it should be seen as a way to protect the future.

"We don't want that rise and we don't want to face those additional strains, stresses and costs on the planet.

"To ensure an opportunity for future security we need to minimise those risks by making sure that we keep the rise below two [degrees] centigrade.

"We cannot cope with a four-degree centigrade [rise] across the world," he said.

Political second secretary at the British High Commission, Danniel Carruthers, said his government was very ardent on working closely with Barbados and other countries to combat climate change.

"We are involved with a number of public awareness initiatives.

"We are working to support a number of projects in helping the region as it relates to climate change," he said.

Carruthers added that while climate change was a global problem every individual could play their part.

"It needs to be addressed at different levels.

"There is work that can be done locally. Everyone can be looking at themselves and see what lifestyle changes they can make and reduce their carbon footprints.

"We think of that as a small change, but actually the issue can be addressed via that," he said, noting that the next step was working internationally.

"Globally, billions of people making their individual changes really adds up.

"That really reflects the work which the British High Commission is trying to do here with the Barbados Government and through CARICOM," he said.

Countries from around the world are expected to be involved in intense negotiations during the 15th Conference Of Parties (COP 15), a United Nations conference to be held in Copenhagen from December 7 to 18 at which time they would try reach a consensus on ways to reduce emissions. (MM)

Barbados like every other country around the world should stop polluting the atmosphere and the water. We are not the big culprits, but we do share a small part of the blame. The cruise ships coming into our waters should be banned from dumping waste into the ocean. People should also stop using a number of these pesticides that were banned in other countries and have ended up in Barbados. Each person has a responsibility to help in protecting the environment.

Barbados has a viable chance to sustain itself if we utilise modern technology avalable today. Barbadians can allot a section of the island as a tecnos site. Lets say St. Marks area in St.Philip as a wind farm area producing Grid power for the eastern half of St.Philip or the entire parish including St.John. Ibelive we have enough experience factory engineers and mechanics/electricians that can do the job.The burden of utilising Dieseal#2would be lessened.Sail boat fishing as we used up to the forties, expansion of solar usage,Biodegradable matter converted in process to methaine gas as we used in the 1880s up until maybe the 1950s.Returning the subject to Wind power;Golden Ridge is a prime location for a central wind farm at present I not aware if thatland has been built on as there was an old gas well head located there.

Don't be Fooled : 11/5/2009
Various think tanks in the 1970’s decided that one of the most effective ways to bring in a World Government was through creating a perception of a global threat that would require a global solution. They said that using a global environmental threat would suffice. Scientist make advancements by getting grants so the elite established grants to study global warming which has morphed into climate change and as we all know he who pays the piper calls the tune. If you are being paid to find something you tend to find just that. But recently over 30,000 scientists worldwide who are independent thinkers have signed a petition saying that the science is not nearly as dogmatic as some would have us believe. Did you know that the Antarctic ice cap is larger now than it has been in decades? Did you know that the global temperature is lower now and has fallen for the past 10-20 years according to the UN. But I guess these are inconvenient truths when a secret agenda is being foisted on the unsuspecting masses. Scientific models have limited use with an eco system that is so complex and have a dubious history. When one studies it they will find that it is truly junk science. The truth is in plain sight, in the Copenhagen Agreement the term World Governance = New World Order is mentioned over and over in the document that is what this is all about. If a global authority can dictate to a country how much energy they are allowed to use they in fact control the country and its development or lack thereof. It is a new worldwide colonialism or as they say in their writings a scientific dictatorship all in the name of Mother Earth. Don’t be fooled.
