SOMETIMES AN OPPORTUNITY only comes once; so make good use of it when it is passing.
Former Combermerian, comedienne and entertainer Carol-Ann Scantlebury was honoured recently by her alma mater in the School Hall at Waterford, St Michael.
Noting the honour and privilege she felt on receiving her Special Combermere Award, she urged the students to get involved in entertainment in any form, whether it be as writers or entertainment lawyers.
"Combermere is my foundation . . . . I knew when I saw the stage for the first time, when I was 11 years old, I knew I had to be on that stage. Entertainment plays an all important part of our lives whether we listen to music or go to the movies.
"We need people in entertainment, but quality people. You have many talents, we play many roles in everyday life, so explore them. Time passes quickly, so seize the opportunity when it comes to you," she urged the students.
Scantlebury impressed upon the student body the need to always give back to their communities in whatever career choice they opted for or where they lived.
"Don't just clap, but remember to do it. Giving back helps the community to move forward," she said.
Two students, Satera Marshall, who received the first ever Jack Adams Math Award sponsored by Carlton Supermarket, and Dario Welch, who received the CGI Spirit Of Combermere Award, were also lauded at the ceremony. (TM)
