BARBADOS' security forces and several civilian groups are hard at work training for the big Independence Day Parade.

Yesterday afternoon, hundreds of people, including police officers, firefighters, soldiers, security guards, prison officers, Pathfinders and members of the St John's Ambulance Brigade, brushed up on their marching skills at the Garrison Savannah.

Special events coordinator in the Prime Minister's Office, Cranston Browne, said everything was on track for the big parade on November 30.

"This is just one rehearsal," he said. "We will have the grand rehearsal on Friday to get everyone up to mark."

According to Browne, this year's parade is expected to be "bigger and better", with a larger number of civilian groups taking part. (TY)

Bring back the DAY PARADE : 12/1/2009
WONDERFUL! we had two night parades. It was great. Time to get to the day parade. Bajans always look forward to the Independence day parade when they can line the streets from The Garrison to Independence Square to see their troops and Organisational representitives march on the roads. I remember as a child watching the bands as they play their sweet music and the crowds cheer them on. Gone are the days where you can go out at night and be safe. I don't have a problem with the night parade but let's have it when we meet a significant year. Not ever year.

Unsafe at night. : 11/26/2009
Parades are almost always held in the day it makes it safer for the participants. There are certain formations that cannot be properly done at night. Be real have it in the daytime for the safety of the participants and the audience. Former Barbados Regiment and USMC

Is the parade taking place at night? If so, why was ight chosen. Daytime parades are better for everyone. Greater attendance also. We should be thinking of older folks who would have to use public transportation, and daylight would be safer for everyone.

7ccty Like you i was wondering what they were re in acting this time .Do the organizers and planners know that this is a GRAND OPPORTUNITY for predators .Freaks come out at night .These school children in the organizations are out late.Yes they are doing their country proud but.... Do they think all these children are there with their parents ? What is wrong with daylight where their friends and everyone can see them ?What wrong with daylight where elderly , disabled and more persons are able to come out and see ?

WHY NOT? : 11/25/2009
Barbdos bacame an independent nation at 12 midnight on or 12.01on 30th November 1966. What is wrong with celebrating it at that time. We cannot afford to let a few thugs in our society keep us locked in our doors and refuse to what is good for our country. We have enough room at Dodds for them.
Hope you dont ask for a parade in every parish so that you would not have to come to the Garrison if is reverted to morning.

i am concern about this parade in the night.
for what reason was it change from day to night? Last year we were re-enacting 1966, what are we re-enacting this year.It wiil take away from the early morning atmosphere of seeing the various detachment marching through Bay street enrout to the city. someone needs to address this before it turns ugly. Concern Bajan.
