VIOLENCE has again hit Guyana, with gunmen attacking two police stations yesterday morning and setting fire to the High Court building, as well as the Richard Ishmael Public School.
A joint law-enforcing services contingent later launched an operation at Agricola, East Bank of Demerara, where the gunmen were reportedly trailed after carrying out a series of seemingly coordinated pre-dawn attacks.
In a drive-by attack, gunmen unleashed a barrage of bullets on the Brickdam Police Station and the East Ruimveldt Police Outpost. At least two policemen were injured in the Brickdam attack, which was concentrated on the barracks where the lawmen were asleep.
Meanwhile, armed men stormed the High Court compound and held up two female guards on duty. The men then hurled channa bombs at the Court registry before fleeing.
Firefighters managed to put out the blaze, which is believed to have destroyed a significant number of records housed in the registry.
Shortly after they responded to a fire at the Richard Ishmael Secondary School. (Stabroek News/EZS)
FED UP OF JAGDEO & THE PPP GOVERNMENT IN GUYANA : 11/10/2009
The Government of Guyana needs to stop trying to play the Guyanese people for dummies just to hold onto power. They were involved with a known drug trafficker to kill others, etc. this has the writing of the Government on it, looking for sympathy from the masses. Good news they aint gonna get nun. Down with Jagdeo & the PPP. The have only bought destruction to Guyana. Since that party took over, it is more chaos than anything else. Gun runnings, drug pushing, murders, suicides, etc. Caricom is silent on all this. Look at the 14 year old that got tortured by the discipline services. Jagdeo & his cabal is playing hocus pocus with it. But they fail to realise all good things come to an end, and the end is near for the entire cabal. Kick them out of power by what ever means necessary. People power. politicians must not dictate to the people. They are servants of the people, people are not their servants. Every aspect of Guyanese society is corrupt, THANKS JAGDEO. Caricom needs to take action against Jagdeo & stop showing him sympathy. He just cares about power, not for the Guyanese. He & his party is a waste of time & space. Roger khan got caught with spy equipment & high powered weapons but was allowed to carryout his works unhindered not until the Americans came to the aid of the Guyanese society. The Lindo Creek massacre by the discipline services among countless other human rights abuses by the Government goes unchecked. Jagdeo could care less. He only opened his mouth about Barbados sending Guyanese out when he find out is nuff Indians, before he aint care. Caricom take note. Jagdeo can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the time. There is gonna be a breaking point. People gonna blow. Every place jagdeo goes he should be met with a protest. There are many other issues that the Government has blatantly abused its citizens, that has not been mentioned. Time to take a stand Guyanese. it is not about race or colour, it is about a nation to save.
I too glad the government toughening up immigration controls. : 11/5/2009
Next thing the whole of Barbados would be under threat. If this ever happened in Barbados I hope the government went from house to house and round up all the hoodlums. Because neighbourhoods always know who the problem ones are.
Serves Them... : 11/5/2009
They should not destroy Government buildings. However, if the police don't stop brutalizing people's children, the time will return when they will be hunted like wild animals and killed.
Just A Dose of Their Own ... : 11/5/2009
I am a Law-abiding citizen, but what the police are experiencing presently, is just smoke. Fire is on its way. The majority of them believe that they are the law, and can kill, torture, and do whatever they are instructed to do, with the poor people in Guyana, especially the Young Black Men. Perhaps this is in retaliation to the torture that they carried out on several youths recently. Sorry that it is not God Himself sending FIRE AND BRIMSTONES ON THEM.
