THE SALVATION ARMY'S Feeding Centre on Reed Street, The City, is getting some assistance.
Fast-food restaurant KFC recently provided a tasty change for more than 100 people by treating them to "finger lickin' good chicken" as a part of KFC's World Hunger Relief effort.
Salvation Army Divisional Commander Major Dewhurst Jonas said that while major funding for the feeding programme came from Government, assistance from private organisations was always appreciated.
"Our programme is growing. We now have on average 31 000 people who rely on us for meals.
"We do not turn away anyone . . . . We therefore greatly appreciate KFC's donation and we hope other organisations will follow their lead . . . . If we could get an organisation to provide just one meal a month to our guests, it would be a wonderful gift."
KFC's marketing coordinator Shekelia Barrow said KFC had worked with the Salvation Army on several occasions.
"We are in the business of feeding people, and the Salvation Army also feeds people, so we thought this would be a good way to commemorate World Hunger Relief . . . .
"We are proud to partner with such a caring organisation."
The Salvation Army can look forward to further assistance from KFC as 50 per cent of all money collected from bins at 13 KFC branches will be donated to the Salvation Army in January 2010. The other half will go to the international World Hunger Relief Programme. (PR)
KFC Feeds 100 people : 11/26/2009
Good for KFC in donating food to Salvation Army, I am sure the hundred people really enjoyed the meal. It is wonderful when business gives back to the community. Hope more businesses will participate in these ventures, assisting the disadvantage.

Why is it that some many Bajans rely on this feeding programme. Is all the prosperity I hear about just a fast( farce ).
KFC for the poor & homeless : 11/25/2009
yes, that is exactly what they are trying to do...let them eat fat and grease, the chickens come from dirty farms and is of poor quality. cornbread, beef stew, split pea soup and ground provisions sounds good but is too expensive. KFC is cheap.

I would suspect that the money KFC make throughout the year, they can afford to put something back into the community, unfortunately, people remain starving and homeless throughout the year and not just at christmas and over the holiday period.
