@ EYE 95, this tenanty Free hold foolishness cause us to lost the land our grandfather said was for his children and then to go from seed to seed. Innocent owners are successors are getting robbed of their inheritance, all because of old people's kindness. You can't even rent piece of ground for too long nowadaysThis Act requires additional research and additional clauses to make it wholesome and justifiable to all.

Mr Lashley, at what price did Al Barrack purchase that (poor people) land and how much acres was it?
Retired.
: 2/8/2010
To 'SAD'..if a pensioner got tricked, that is his/her problem. What has being a fool got to do with govt?
: 2/2/2010
My father a poor man with six children had two spots of land given to him by his mother and grandmother, these spots were left for his children one spot to be divided in three the other in two(the other child got a spot elsewhere) now they were trying ot sub divide the spots one is about an acre the other about 1/2 acre have been vacant for years used to be used for planting, now they were told the spots cant be sub-divided only allow to build one structure....
: 2/2/2010
PENSIONERS WILL NOT BENEFIT FROM THIS. THEIR CHILDREN (ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO TRICKED THEM INTO BEING POWER OF ATTORNEY)WILL BE WAITING TO PURCHASE THIS FOR THEMSELVES. ALSO
THIS IS CORRUPTION SINCE ONLY CERTAIN POLITICAL PEOPLE WILL BENEFIT FROM THIS.
POLITICS = CORRUPTION
BAD MOVE... : 2/2/2010
How do you correct the wrong headed decisions made by goverment to sell off the island to developers? how do you placate the masses? the idea of free land or cheap land. Barbadian politicians are either corrupt of just stupid. How many gold course does a small island need? How many hotels? The average Barbadian is being sold out. Soon there will be no more room for land distribution... how will the government placate the people then. It is only a matter of time.
Land Deal : 2/2/2010
All i would like to do is see the lsit of Pensioners and prospective buyers.
And waiting to place my X - I totally agree with you
No vision : 2/2/2010
This is a short-run solution to something that is going to be long-term. Maybe it will be cheap to buy now. But image how the government will earn its money expect..taxation.
: 2/2/2010
Lashley is just meking sure he secure anudder term, wuh shud de gov't giv wey land, can des people now in turn sell de land fuh a profit? people shud be allowed tuh liv in or on gov't property and pay yearly rent baseed on household income, wen dey can afford tuh move on dey shud and let anudder poor person get a chance. it seems alot ab Bajan waiting fuh gov't handouts and sum politicians fuh votes willing tuh help out, stop wid de hands outs and offer a "HAND UP"
: 2/2/2010

Why Tom Adams is easily the best of them all : 2/2/2010
This is exactly why The Rt. Hon. John Michael Godfrey Manninghman "Tom" Adams is easily the most outstanding Prime Minister this country has had. Yet he is not a National Hero. This is Tom's vision and his Tenantries Freehold Purchase Act, at work. Many years after his death, Tom Adams is still giving the people of Barbados and St. Philip in particular, empowerment and real transformation gifts. This is the legacy of the Barbados Labour Party and like his father the Moses, Tom is Barbados' second political Messiah. But a new political Messia will come from the BLP to take this country to the next high level.
Land deal : 2/2/2010
You mean to tell me seh, this goverment is going to give away everything and then say they have no money and then tell hard working bajans to accept a WAGE FREEZE?
I went to school work hard, was lucky to find a job, trying my best to retain it, pay my mortgage, run my very small business to stay afloat and they are going to give away the land that my taxes help to maintain and then tell me about WAGE FREEZE and they have no money?
Simple math "Caretakers of the Government", if you have assets and give them away how do you expect to earn revenue?
So for a 4,000 sq ft plot I had to pay in excess of $65,000.00 plus the interest I have to pay. At the end of my thirty year loan I will pay in excess of $130,000.00 and this goverment is going to give away a possible similar size plot for $400.00? so when these persons are ready to sell their plots they will make a profit of 32,500%?
Who is driving? I am just hoping that they don't giveaway everything by next election and then tell me I have to pay more taxes and accept a wage freeze to finance this continued madness!
Are my taxes financing votes at the peril of making the economy worse. Dr. David Estwick also talked about selling assets. Did he really mean land at 0.10cents per square foot. The learned doctor is way more intelligent than that. WHAT IS GOING ON?
: 2/2/2010
Who would believe this ?not even the monkies at the wild life reserve.
True Socialism : 2/1/2010
FREE? Not so. This is socialism - everything has a cost. Tax payers will pay the Gov't for this land indirectly in the form of higher taxes or user fees elsewhere to make up for the lost "real market value of the land" the Gov't is passing up on.
10 CENTS : 2/1/2010
Buyers beware aware,ur govt is up to another plot, look out for the backlash
Is this unique? : 2/1/2010
Is this unique to Barbados alone? How come little Barbados with limited resources and limited land can afford to do this sort of thing. Sooner or later the Government will run out of land, what then? Are there conditions attached to the disposal of this land at 10 cents per sq. ft. and free to pensioners? Will this land revert to Government ownership at the death of those who acquire it so generously so that it can be redistributed to future generations of poor people under similar conditions of generosity? this makes the mind boggle.
Good News. : 2/1/2010
Mr. Lashley, make sure that the pensioners get theirs. I know you said it but I don't want the talk, just follow through on it. Thank you.
Land Deal or Land steal? : 2/1/2010
While it is commendable that our Government wants to take care of the landless, it is also true that the treasury is in dire need of funds. Why not sell the land at a more realistic price of, say $1,000 per lot?
Land Deal : 2/1/2010
What's the hook in this deal?
