MALCOLM MARSHALL, Sir Conrad Hunte and Sylvester Clarke, three outstanding Barbados and West Indies cricketers who died within the space of a month ten years ago, will be commemorated next Wednesday with a memorial match at the 3Ws Oval, Cave Hill.

Philo Wallace, chairman of Cricket Legends of Barbados Inc., the organisers of the event, said the Twenty20 match would show that "although you have gone to the great beyond, you are still a part of us".

"Their memories are with us. At board meetings we talk about them a lot and we believe that this memorial game is a way of showing that we appreciate what they've done, and their memories will live on," former West Indies batsman Wallace added.

Fast bowling great Marshall took 376 wickets in 81 Tests between 1978 and 1991 and served as West Indies coach before he passed away on November 4, 1999, aged 41, after losing his battle with cancer.

Hunte died of a heart attack a month later at the age of 67 after a decorated career as opening batsman for the West Indies (44 Tests) and administrator in the Caribbean and South Africa.

Clarke, a fearsome fast bowler, was 44 when he died a day after Hunte. He was restricted to just 11 Tests during West Indies' period of dominance in the 1970s and 1980s.

Marshall's son, Mali, is included in the Memorial XI along with a number of players influenced by the late trio.

The Celebrity XI includes five former internationals in Wallace, Ezra Moseley, Thelston Payne, Carlisle Best and Roland Butcher.

The match begins at 7 p.m. and entry is free.
