Jordan moving on from FirstCaribbean

Published on: 2/2/2010.

OLIVER JORDAN, managing director of FirstCaribbean International Bank (Barbados), has resigned from the institution.

Jordan leaves FirstCaribbean at month-end after five years at the helm of the Barbados, Belize and Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) operations.

Employees of the bank were informed of the development yesterday through an email from chairman Michael Mansoor.

When contacted, Jordan confirmed his pending departure.

"I would say I had an enjoyable five-and-half years with the bank. It was challenging in the current economic environment but we have a good group of people - not only here but throughout the Caribbean.

"I will still be in the financial services sector, but in a different capacity. I'm glad that I had an opportunity to contribute to the bank's success," he said.

While Jordan would not identify where he would be headed next, very reliable sources told the DAILY NATION that he would be taking up a top job with an accounting and consulting firm here, where he will have responsibility for the Barbados and Eastern Caribbean operations.

Jordan joined FirstCaribbean International Bank in 2004 after a six-year stint with the Barbados Tourism Authority. (GE)

A rolling stone gathers no moss. That is true. Also true is that someone of such vast experience and performing well is always in demand. To boot, global economies are tight right now and if the financial wizards recognizing the need for treasured expertise opt to thrust themselves into caring hands, I laud them for that him who is moving to face new challlenges against the backdrop that new opportunities will continue to come to the fore for those who are ladened with the vim and vigour that is indeed quintessential to meeting those challenges. I pray that the day will come when all Barbadians will dispense with insiduous, petty grudges that cannot give them the moss they are looking for.

Congratulations on any new opportunity Mr. Jordan!
Life is about moving on when the time is right. Not everyone subscribes to this and most strive for comfort in the same organization/company/structure until final retirement.

Hypocrite : 2/2/2010
Hate people who claim, 'I hold no brief for the guy' etc etc and then prove that they do indeed carry a candle for the person.

Silly comment. If you know the man's background, you would know taht he was employed by a big six accounting firm prior to joining the BTA. He is just returning to what he was trained in and i am sure his stones are of diamonds nad certainly without moss. I hold no brief for the guy as personally I am not enthralled by him, but give jack his jacket
