THE BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION (BBC) will formally launch its FM station in Barbados today.
The launching ceremony comes at a time when the BBC is engaged in financial cutbacks on services.
To be known as BBC FM 92.1, the station in Barbados will be the fourth such initiative in the Caribbean Community that benefits from the increasingly improved regional service, BBC Caribbean.
Previous FM stations were introduced in Jamaica, Trinidad (with a relay to Tobago) and Antigua.
The FM 92.1 dedicated transmitter will provide, with better clarity, a wide range of the BBC's World Service that includes BBC Caribbean with its flagship Caribbean Report.
Heard daily throughout the region from Monday to Friday, the BBC's Caribbean Service is produced by a team of experienced Caribbean journalists.
Programmes and other details of the service will be announced at a media briefing today at Hilton Barbados. (RS)
They are all biased : 11/26/2009
They are all biased but FOX is extreme and loaded with bigots. CNN is not what it not the CNN of old. They got rid of Dobbs who hated anyone who was not white. So don't believe the hype that North American Cable is giving a fair and true story.
BBC : 11/25/2009
So where were you guys when Rediffusion was broadcasting BBC world Service news back in the 50's and 60's? Where were you when we used to listen to news and cricket on the BBC on short wave radio, sounds like the dark ages right? that was just a mere 40 years or so ago.
How soon we forget, well coming from an old guy like me who prefer to watch the BBC world service news on PBS here in the USA, contrary to the other contributor to the thread, USA network TV is too much commercial oriented while BBC broadcasting in PBS gives far better and more detailed coverage of news stories.
For What? : 11/25/2009
Yeah, for what?
Doh Be Ingrant : 11/25/2009
Wunna people. Try and realize dat ALL news stations got bias! And check dat is more dan just two news stations in de wurl! BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera and CCTV. All ah dem bias so try an make up yuh own mind afta listenin to ALL.
What took so long?? : 11/24/2009
Ok BBC, I suppose you all just realized that Barbados should be a recipient of your news. What took so long? Little Bimshire, where you Brits love to visit and where your Concorde logged millions of miles is now on your list? Well I suppose the old adage of better late than never suffices again.
Why are they back : 11/24/2009
Why are they back and what is their angle, selling what...propaganda... As long as we get and can recognise both sides of the stories, we will be fine..
Massa day come back! : 11/23/2009
I prefer to listen to CNN than BBC. I was in London when Obama was being elected and i got a different and honestly more objective and realistic perspective from watching CNN than BBC. BBC like rest of England was marginally bias in reporting against U.S.A because U.S.A is 100yrs ahead of them socially and economically. Bajans need to stop lapping up European things and understand we already in the great new world and look north to USA for third party and credible opinions, their civilization is a lot more credible. Understand the ring wing conservative agenda in UK and realize those people are dangerous. I wonder if govt would give me a license for a broad station?

NEO-COLONIALISATION !!!
A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY, OBSERVER : 11/23/2009
Mr/Ms. Neutral Observer, you're not observing very well. Perhaps your specs need cleaning. I assume your post was referring to me because you quoted from mine. If that's the case, you're barking up the wrong tree. I didn't criticize the two gentlement because I didn't post on that story! You may have gotten me confused with another person who signs his/her posts with the initials, "RB". Please note that I ALWAYS write my name in full at the end of EVERY post because I stand by what I write. As such, there's no need for me to conceal my identity. We all make mistakes at some time or another, so you're forgiven. Happy observing.
Missing The Point : 11/21/2009
It is interesting how you cannot contain yourself with praise for the BBC radio station and its "thorough manner of covering and delivering news items", yet you criticised the two gentlemen who recently protested in front of the Nation for the Nation's lack of thorough manner of covering and delivering news items.
BBC, Yeah, thats kool : 11/21/2009
Wunna people late. I been listen to this local BBC fm station for weeks now. I for one am glad it on. It had become really sicken to tune in to these local Fm stations, to find one self constantly being fed a diet of Hyper beat calyso, Reggae. American R&B, AND all that stuff, with little attention being gaven to iternational affairs, As thing were , we were just reciebving ice chips size reports of global affairs in most of these station news casting. Now with this alternative, people can get a greater exposure to other places and events rather that this cyclic cariibbean material , which really shown no growth in educating people, but njust entertain ment. I alway tell people. ENTERTAINMENT IS NOT EDUCATION.
CANA is still around. : 11/20/2009
(Sort of) http://www.cananews.com/ I don't think you can't access any stories unless you pay on set of money... You can get some of CANA's stories on http://www.cbc.bb/ but only a couple.
NOT IMPRESSED + BIASED = MISGUIDED : 11/20/2009
CANA + CBU = CMC.
CARIBBEAN + BBC = FOOLS : 11/20/2009
When CANA was in existence they did what this BBC station is supposedly doing now. I didnt see all of you Caribbean people fighting to save or support CANA.
BBC : 11/19/2009
I think this is going to be a welcome change. Perhaps some of the local announcers will learn a thing or too. Welcome BBC
BBC? : 11/18/2009
This will be enjoyed much and will be a great influence on our Barbados. Welcome BBC!!Fondly!
(Old timer)
: 11/18/2009
Perhaps our news people may be able a learn a bit from the Master. Welcome back BBC.
BBC R U ready for it : 11/18/2009
It might just expose some of the lies and 1/2 truths in the local bajan media.
BBC : 11/18/2009
Do not get overjoyed quite yet BBC's standard have declined greatly over the years.Though it is still better than many it's Caribbean Programme is well below it's 1990's level.Take it from someone who has had BBC FM service in my country for more than 15 years.
BBC RADIO : 11/18/2009
Quite by chance while turning the dial last week, I found the BBC station or rather it found me. I've always liked their thorough manner of covering and delivering news items. I like their balance too. When one has finished listening, a feeling of having learned more about an issue envelops the listener. Welcome aboard, BBC.
BBC FM 92.1 : 11/18/2009
Wonderful to see the BBC introducing to Barbados a sample of it's excellent educational, informative and entertaining media brand.
BBC FM Radio 92.1 : 11/18/2009
I discovered the BBC FM 92.1 by chance and I now tune in as often as possible. It is very informative and I welcome the initiative to have this station in Barbados. We need to have a greater variety of news and BBC gives us that. Good job BBC.

BBC Radio. : 11/18/2009
Great. At last a sound international and more accurate content from home base.
Awesome: Now if only the Deutsche Welle came... : 11/18/2009
If the Deutsche Welle out of German came down the island would be well covered from that European powerhouse.
BBC Fan : 11/18/2009
This is such great news, BBC Caribbean has some excellent programs/journalism. I can't wait.
Trinidad & Tobago : 11/18/2009
The station is in Trinidad and Tobago. It's not Trinidad with a relay to Tobago. Why do people like to remove my sister island from my nation?
: 11/18/2009
What about local music ?
