In first century Rome, Greece, Egypt and Judea, a person born into that culture was led from childhood to seek honour and the avoid disgrace. Other values such as piety, reliability and courage were instilled in a child. In our society, one wonders about our system of values. These seem to have disappeared into “Maxwell’s Pond” (as the saying goes). As parents, we need to instil strong values in our children; yet if the parents cannot control themselves, can we expect the children to control themselves?Where is the chastity and modesty in our young women, the soft voices and thegentleness? As men and women, we need first to respect ourselves, then each other, so as to fight these ills within our society – “for united we stand, divided we fall”.
Where have the morals gone?
