UWI take strong position over YMPC
A SIX-WICKET haul by Ryan Austin and contrasting half centuries by openers Miles Bascombe (61) and Romel Currency (52) have given Sagicor UWI a stranglehold over Caribbean Lumber YMPC going into the final day.
UWI hold a lead of 274 having reached 168-5 in their second innings
Austin (6-49), who bowled 15 consecutive overs from the southern end yesterday combined with youthful legspinner Mario Miller (3-18) to account for all but one of YMPC’s first innings wickets as the hosts crumbled in 31.1 overs for 111.
Then, having gained a sizeable lead of 106, the opening pair posted 94 for the first wicket with the aggressive Bascombe smiting nine threes and two fours in a run-a-ball knock.
Captain Currency chose to play the sheet anchor role to his fellow Vincentian national and also counted nine threes, along with one four in his 91-ball knock.
