Barbados started their Group 4 campaign of the 2010 Davis Cup tennis tournament with a 2-1 victory over Trinidad and Tobago on Monday night.First up was Anthony Marshall who played a very solid and consistent game to beat the power hitting of Yohansey Williams 6-2, 6-1. No. 1 Haydn Lewis came up against Joseph Cadogan who is a good left-hand player but didn’t have the weapons to deal with Lewis’ powerful serve and heavy forehands from the baseline. Lewis had comfortable 6-2, 6-1 victory to give Barbados a 2-0 lead.In the doubles, Ryan Moseley and Seanon Williams lost 3-6, 4-6 to Liam Gomez and Dawoud Kabli in a match in which, according to captain Kevin Yarde, the Bajans didn’t play their sharpest and best tennis and missed too many returns and relatively easy volleys. They also did not serve consistently well. Barbados were awaiting the result of the match between Panama and the United States Virgin Islands. (PR/SAT)
