TOMORROW is classic day at the Garrison, and the racing fraternity will witness the second leg of the Pattern event for top-class three-year-olds. The 35th running of this classic (Derby trail) will now be called The Hallway Feeds Three-Year-old Midsummer Creole Classic (Gr1. Bar) for West Indian-bred three-year-olds going 1 800 metres. This feature race – Race 7 – has attracted 12 runners, with Amanyara and Leave It To Me being the favourites.A win here for Amanyara would not only keep her Triple Crown dream alive, but would place her in an elite group of winners of the classic with the likes of Incitatus, Coo Bird, Zouk and Areyoutalkintome. Colts will take 126 pounds, fillies 121.Another race that should be an especially good spectacle is the Hallway Feeds Race 13 Trophy Condition race for three-year-olds-and-older, rated 0-145 at weight for age, and going 1 100 metres. In this sprint, there is no penalty for breaking the speed limit.Azwa, Who’s To Say, Super Star and Janaki all have an abundance of speed, but after the early “speeding” the question will be if the classy Areyoutalkintome, Preach To Me and Peaceful Envoy can close in time.Super Star is handicapped at 132 pounds and has not being on the track since his jockey lost his steels at the start in the Sandy Lane Spa Sprint on March 6, where he was still good enough to finish fourth. Despite his speed, it’s a tough ask at the weights.Who’s To Say, also taking 132 pounds, gave away weight last start in the Zouk Handicap to Azwa, Janaki and Time D’or, but now on more favourable terms, a reversal of placings is definitely on the cards. Azwa, carrying 127 pounds, looked all over a winner last start until she packed it in five metres from the line, and there will be those doubting her ability to win.Janaki, a smart winner of the Zouk Handicap over 1 100 metres, is in the form of her life, but will have to overcome the draw, plus being handicapped at 127 pounds, and is dangerously close to the principals.Bloumberg, up in class and weights, essentially will need to raise his game and looks overmatched. Pure Temptation takes a drop back in distance, but this won’t make life any easier for him, while Time D’or has more negatives than positives.Preach To Me, carrying 132 pounds, won the Lost In The Fog Trophy over 1 100 metres in impressive fashion, but was met with interference in the Val Gale Cup going 1 800 metres and did not see through that run. He must have a realistic chance. Peaceful Envoy has generally failed to fire since his return from Canada, but is capable of better.Areyoutalkintome’s last sprint outing was on November 21 2009, when he romped home by three lengths, carrying 130 pounds. After winning the Daylight Express Trophy over 1 570 metres in April, the 2009 Triple Crown winner was given a much deserved rest, and should report for duty fighting fit. Many will be expecting the handsome colt to make it ten wins from 14 starts.
