HORSE RACING in Barbados has been given a boost in more ways than one, with the involvement of one of the world’s leading feed manufacturers partnering with the Barbados Turf Club. Hallway Feeds, the Kentucky-based company, is sponsoring what looks to be a high quality day of action, on the fifth day of the Barbados Turf Club second season of racing at the Garrison Savannah. The Hallway Feeds Race Day is decorated with a ten-race card, the feature of which is the Hallway Feeds Three-Year-Old Midsummer Creole Classic (GR.1.-Bar) for West Indian-bred animals over 1 800 metres. This race, the second jewel of the Barbados Triple Crown, will run off around 4:05 p.m.Trainer Naz Issa, who has won all the three-year-old classic races for the year so far, saddles the two favourites for Melrose and Clifton Racing, in Amanyara and Leave It To Me.Amanayara can add her name to an elite list of six horses that have won the Midsummer Creole Classic, and then went on to win the Barbados Triple Crown. That list includes Watersmeet in 1973, Ginger Lily in 1980, Coo Bird in 1989, Incitatus in 1996, Zouk in 2006 and Areyoutalkintome in 2009.The distance of 1 800 metres will be a test of stamina for Amanyara and it will be very interesting to see the tactics used by her connections.Leave It To Me turned the tables on Amanyara, in their last meeting in the Barbados Fillies Guineas, and has shown she will stay forever. The Chally Jones-trained filly Sea Gypsy is one that many pundits believe has a chance to overcome the principals while the Jonathan Simpson-trained Up The Ante is still a maiden, but has put in some creditable performances and is bred to stay the trip by Federico. Lady Williams-owned Outeniqua has been below par in her last two races  after her victory against West Indian-bred three-year-olds on February 13.Stanton French-owned Local Speed is the only horse in the field to have won at the distance when defeating West Indian-bred three-year-olds on May 15 but does not inspire confidence against the leading crop of three-year-olds.Captain Sully, Dancebak, Kimanshia and Gone Prospecting are all winners, but in lesser company and will all find this race a test of stamina and class.Atomic Bomb has been in the frame in maiden races, and looks out of his depth, while recent winner Tornade has been supplemented by owner Margo Atkinson and this is reason enough to pay some attention to this entrant. Twelve locally bred two-year-olds will make their racing debut in the Hallway Feeds Foundation Cubes Trophy Condition race for West Indian-bred two-year-olds going 1 000 metres. This race will also see the debut of trainer Roland Layne (Mr Agriculture) as he handles the colt Tactical Remark and filly Vicki’s Choice for J.R.R.
