TORONTO – Patrick Husbands captured his tenth stakes race of the Woodbine season when he partnered Mekong Melody to victory in the CAN$300 400 (BDS$578 050) Dance Smartly Stakes on Sunday.The 36-year-old Barbadian completed the 1-1/8 mile trip in one minute, 46.09 seconds, taking the five-year-old mare to wire by a nose over hot favourite Ave. On Saturday, he landed a double, including an upset victory aboard Glory Game, in the CAN$150 000 (BDS$ 288 640) co-feature Colin Stakes for two-year-olds at Woodbine, to keep the pressure up on leading jockey Eurico Da Silva. Husbands later nailed the CAN$68 440 (BDS$131 697) eighth race over 1 200 metres astride 7-2 bet Sharp Secretary. (CMC)
