The United Insurance Barbados Derby, one of the most prestigious races on the horse racing calendar, runs off at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow. In the build-up to the big race, Lindon Yarde spoke to most of the trainers.NAZ ISSA“Leave It To Me is working very very well. She did four furlongs last Saturday morning in 51 secondS effortlessly, so I’m hoping for some luck and expecting another good performance from her.“Amanyara worked four furlongs Saturday morning in 50.1 seconds going extremely well. I’m very pleased with the way she’s going and I expect her to run a very good race. “Dance The Distance is a very good horse – still a maiden, but has good potential and will run a good race.” CHALLENOR JONES“Sea Gypsy is working very well. She has a very good chance and a good jockey. I think she’ll run very well and once the jockey uses her turn of foot at the right time, she’ll be involved at the finish.” ANDREW NUNESLocal Speed has improved with every race and I’m hoping for another good run. He has been working very well and his race day jockey is very pleased. Once he’s in the same frame of mind as he was in the Midsummer Classic, he’ll get a much better ride and just needs that little bit of luck.”BOSTON JOHN“I’m optimistic with Calypso Queen. I haven’t been pressing her and she has been doing lots of beach work and I’m just hoping for the best.”JONATHAN SIMPSON“Up The Ante is working fantastically and I’m quietly confident he’ll run a good race. He is bred to stay and once his race day rider doesn’t leave him with too much to do, he has a great chance of stealing it.”LIZ DEANE“Gone Prospecting is going pretty well. It’s the best he has ever trained. He’s bred to stay and I expect him to run a good race.”SAFFIE JOSEPH JR“Between The Sheiks is working well and has put on some weight. He should be good enough to hit the board and I think he’ll run the race of his life.”ANDERSON WARD“Rush Cutter is working well, going in the right direction and I’m getting lots of positives from him. We will need racing luck, and he is untested at this distance, but I am hoping that class will pull him through.“Island Lad is a mystery, one paces and roguish, but the distance will not be a problem and he comes into the race sound.“I am excited by Captain Sully. Unfortunately he has had no luck, but once he gets an incident free trip, I expect big things.”  Â
