In what has been a low-scoring affair so far, Police held the upper hand against Banks on Day 1 of their sixth-round LIME Division 1 cricket match at Weymouth yesterday. After skittling out their opponents for a meagre 74, Police finished the day on 111 for six, a lead of 37. Banks, after being sent in on a slow pitch, never  recovered from a disastrous start, in the face of some fine medium pace bowling from Antonio Mayers (five for 36) and left-arm pacer Davian Branker (four for 13). Only Sherwin Campbell, who batted at No. 8, reached double figures, topscoring with 37, including one six off 91 deliveries. In Police’s reply, Mayers once again led the way, topscoring so far with 33, containing three fours off 50 balls. (LH)AT BAYFIELD: Captain Mario Rampersaud stroked a patient but purposeful undefeated half-century to see Guardian General Barbados Youth reach a respectable score of 216 for six against BNB St Catherine.Rampersaud made 56 off 142 deliveries in which he struck three fours and two sixes. He came to the crease with his side on 85 for four and added 56 for the fifth wicket with Kyle Mayers, who made 47 with three sixes and one four off 94 balls. After Mayers was caught  at deep mid-on, Rampersaud found another useful partner in McKhail Austin who scored 26 in a sixth-wicket partnership of 70. (EH)
