There is an outbreak of an influenza-like illness at the St Philip District Hospital, forcing a cancellation of all visits.
Minister of Health Donville Inniss says that more than 30 patients had been diagnosed with the virus, forcing the ministry to take steps to protect relatives and friends who visit the institution.
“You would recall that we had to take similar measures when there was such an outbreak at the Geriatric Hospital earlier this year,” Inniss says. “As was the case then, in the public’s interest we again have to take this precautionary step.”
A statement from the Government Information Service today advises the public that all visits had been suspended “until further notice”.
“As a result, relatives are asked to call the St Philip District Hospital to make arrangements for the delivery of clothes or other items.
“The Ministry of Health has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their cooperation.”
Just last week, THE NATION also reported a flu-like outbreak at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, also in St Philip. Some 60 inmates there were quarantined, and visits to the affected prisoners were also suspended.
